About
This blog is for all the fresh and new graphic designers that are about to embark into the big world of Graphic Design at a professional level within Australia. What do you need to know, so you survive the first hour of your first job? What do studios expect? This blog will give you the heads up on all these things and will show you how to be a Super Graphic Designer over all the other graphic designers graduating this year.
Being in the Graphics Arts Industry for 20 years has taught me two things.. Stand out!!! and Understanding what your Client wants… oh yeah there is a third thing…. always deliver..
Nowadays my passion is giving away the knowledge I’ve collected to the new, younger generations of Designers…. of course the lure of design calls me daily… and I love to push type, mix colours and create designs that work.
Oh there’s a fourth thing… never, never stop learning… in this industry, if you haven’t learnt something new today.. your behind the eightball.
About Ron Woodbine
I’m a Graphic Designer based in Perth Western Australia and have been in the industry for 2 decades. I started my career as an offset printer in the late 80′s. This gave me a valuable insight in how printing processes work and the limitations of print. After my apprenticeship, I went straight onto completing a three year design diploma. Over the next 10 years I worked in top design studios and corporate in-house studios which include Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), Amcom, local government and an international engineering consultancy company (SKM).
In 2002, I decided to learn something new and went back to uni part-time to complete a Communications Degree, majoring in Interactive Multimedia. This gave me not just print design skills, but now I can create websites, edit film and create multimedia.
In 2004, I began sessional lecturing at Edith Cowan University in Perth. I specialise in pre-press, graphic design and studio assimilation for third years and post grad students. I successfully developed and delivered the units materials myself.
For the past two years, I’ve been the National Trainer for Worldwide Online Printing, training 160 plus Graphic Designers within the national Network. Creating online self paced training for the Web to Print software that Worldwide offers.
So that’s the past 20 years, it has been unreal and I love what I do. I’m now a full time freelancer, designing and sharing my experiences through training and lecturing. SO did I mention I’m now a freelancer..? if you have any design requirements I can help with please take a look at my website.
